PAVIR Facts
The Palo Alto Veterans Institute for Research (PAVIR) is one of 82 active nonprofit research corporations (NPCs), formed to establish a unique partnership to broaden the  VA’s ability to benefit from private and non-VA public support for research conducted at VA medical centers.  Here are a few facts about PAVIR (pronounced like "paver"):
  • We were established in November of 1988.
  • We are one of the three largest VA affiliated NPCs with $24 million in revenue in 2014.
  • We support more than 70 Principal Investigators conducting 182 active studies, with 73% of our funding coming from the NIH, DOD and other federal sources. 
  • As of June 30, 2015 we have 262 employees.
Updated Electronic Device Request Form
You may recall that in the last employee update we introduced a new Electronic Device Request form.  Our Purchasing Department has been receiving some old Electronic Device Request forms, so we wish to remind you to please use the new form that can also be found on the forms page of pavir.net.  This is a required supporting document that should be submitted with a Purchase Requisition for any computer order or electronic device requests.
Roche Biochemical Reagents Now Available Exclusively through Sigma-Aldrich
Beginning July 1, 2015, Roche has transferred exclusive distribution rights to Sigma-Aldrich for products in the Biochemical Reagents product area, which include kits and enzymes for cellular analysis, proteomics (including cOmplete and PhosSTOP) and conventional PCR applications. These products will be available exclusively through Sigma-Aldrich’s ordering and distribution channels. Click here to learn more.
Planning Your Summer Vacations
Please remember to obtain PRIOR approval from your supervisor for requested time off, especially for vacations for longer durations of time. You may submit your timesheet(s) prior to your vacation to ensure your hours are processed accurately. You can view your current vacation balance on your pay statements or on ADP WorkforceNow > Myself > Time Off > Time Off Balances. 

401(k) Educational Meeting
We have scheduled a group 401(k) educational meeting which will review plan basics, tax advantages of participating in a 401(k) plan, available investment options, and investment strategies.  All employees are welcome to attend! Space is limited so please RSVP.

Individual Retirement Planning Sessions
For additional guidance and information regarding your retirement, we are also offering free 30 minute individual retirement planning sessions with a 401(k) advisor. Limited 1-1 sessions are available, so please RSVP to reserve a time slot.

Employee Benefits Survey
We want your input on what elements of our benefits plan matter most to you.  We will be sending out an employee survey to all benefits eligible employees in August.  Let us know what you think is important in a benefits plan or even what may be missing. We are asking for your feedback to help us design our benefits program for the upcoming calendar year.  Please be on the lookout for an online survey invitation from HR!
